For you tabletop RPG fans, more goodness is heading your way from IKO with their suburban gothic take on an alternate 90s in The Lost Bay. Inspired in equal parts by dark fantasy, horror classics, and the 90s indie culture, The Lost Bay will arrive on Kickstarter on March 19.
Described as a “fever dream of 90s suburban horror”, The Lost Bay is a standalone tabletop role playing game for one to six players that is “rich with factions, mysteries, conflicts, and spooky antagonists”. Set in a world where ancient creatures and forces dwell right next to modern technology and buildings, the game is story-driven, and focuses on exploration and character growth.
Players choose from one of ten character classes called Vibes, which again take after 90s urban and horror archetypes, with each granted specific powers and gear. You have one resource to fuel your power in “the Weird”. Using your powers will always succeed, but each time you use them, you’ll be left with a Scar. Scars can hurt you, make you more powerful, or change you. They are specific to each Vibe.
If you get all the Scars and you manage to survive them, you become a Living Saint, an immortal roaming the Bay, effectively making you the lore of the Bay.
As for the game world of The Lost Bay, it’s described as being light on lore but heavy on flavour, where you’ll discover it as you create your character and play. The game world is divided into four Districts, four far away Realms and the digital world know as the program. For each district (Mall Nation, the Waterfront, Trashland, Sleep Country and the Desert) you’ll get a specific bestiary, pre-gen point crawl, detailed locations and additional location generation procedures.
The Kickstarter is to fund two books: The Lost Bay book and Urban Legends book. The former contains character creation and core rules, while the latter has a collection of adventures and modules. The campaign will include four pledge levels, while the stretch goals include an online suburb generator, an advanced digital character keeper and more.
