Avoid the Cold and a Prehistoric Creature in Antarctic Horror Title ‘Fear Below Zero’ [Trailer]

Corsgames, the developer behind 2024’s Waffle Cone Willie, is tapping into the seldom-used but oh-so-effective horror of Artic (or in this case, Antarctic) conditions with their newly-announced Survival Horror title Fear Below Zero. Combining the AI hunting mechanics of Alien: Isolation with the helpless atmosphere of Amnesia: The Bunker, players are pitted against a prehistoric predator with no way to fight back.

Set in the remote Erebus Station near Mount Erebus, Fear Below Zero throws you into the role of a communications technician responding to a distress call at the remote Antarctic station. There, you find that an ancient evil has awakened, and is now on the hunt. With no weapons to speak of to fend off the creature, you must rely entirely on stealth, environmental awareness, and resource management to survive while repairing the station’s communications equipment in order to call for help.

In addition to a dynamic threat system where the creature uses light and sound to track players, you’ll obviously need to deal with the freezing temperatures in Fear Below Zero to avoid hypothermia. At the same time time, the game’s resource scavenging mechanics force players to venture into dangerous areas to collect electronics and repair components.

Completing the Survival Horror tropes is the emphasis on environmental storytelling, where the dark truth behind the discovery of the ancient creature is revealed through scattered notes, audio logs, and environmental clues.

“After Waffle Cone Willie‘s viral success, I wanted to create something that captured that same sense of helpless dread but on a much larger scale,” said Corey, founder of Corsgames. “Fear Below Zero strips away all player agency in combat while amplifying every other survival horror element – you’re cold, hunted, and completely vulnerable. It’s designed to make players feel genuinely afraid.”
