Comedians Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim Are Making A Horror Movie “Sicker than most people are going to want to watch”

Tim and Eric

Comedians Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim rose to prominence through their absurdist Adult Swim series Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! The program developed a cult fan base over the course of its five-season run on Cartoon Network, appealing to fans of the ridiculous with its cringe-inducing gags and intentionally poor production quality, which satirizes public access-style programming. The show went off the air in 2010, but that certainly doesn’t mean the duo has stopped collaborating. In the years since the series ended, the pair have directed numerous memorable commercials, collaborated on subsequent Adult Swim series, and even made a feature film.

Speaking of feature film collaborations, Heidecker announced at the premiere of the sports-themed horror picture Him (in which he plays the lead character’s agent) that the duo is presently working on a horror script together.

Heidecker revealed the news while fielding a question about what the future holds for the pair, saying: “We’re actually writing a horror movie that is going to be much sicker than most people are going to want to watch.”

That short and sweet statement has me plenty curious about exactly what they have in store for us. Unfortunately, Heidecker didn’t elaborate much on what ghastly sights he and Wareheim have up their sleeve. Instead, he simply followed up by saying, “We’ll see if it gets made.”

Heidecker went on to say, “I’m not a big horror fanatic, but when they’re really well done and when they have a message or they have something to say, I always appreciate that.”

The fact that Heidecker doesn’t seem to count himself a big horror fan makes me curious what possessed him and Wareheim to take on a genre picture in the first place. Even still, I’m plenty optimistic about the possibilities. Jordan Peele and Zach Cregger previously made the leap from comedy to horror with game-changing results. Each has made their mark on the genre space, establishing themselves as masterful storytellers who are versatile across a variety of different genres. Perhaps Wareheim and Heidecker will follow suit. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

That’s all we know about this mysterious project at this juncture. Make sure to stay tuned to Dread Central in the near future for more breaking updates from the genre space. Until then, be sure to follow us on Twitter (X) @DreadCentral so you’re always in the loop.
