Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein isn’t the only classic Gothic horror novel that continues to draw the interest of filmmakers and audiences alike. Bram Stoker’s Dracula has also seen countless adaptations, itself largely responsible for the vampire genre as we know it. Now, a new take is on the way from none other than writer/director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Léon: The Professional). Based on the newly released trailer below, it appears this is one you’ll want to sink your fangs into.
Besson’s version brings us back to the 15th century, where we meet a prince (Caleb Landry Jones) who witnesses the brutal murder of his wife (Zoë Bleu). Following her death, he renounces God and damns heaven itself. Now, cursed with immortality, he is reborn as Dracula. An undead warlord, he begins a blood-soaked crusade to return his lost love from death. But as he finds himself growing closer to that goal, Dracula is hunted by a relentless priest (Christoph Waltz) who has sworn to end his reign of bloody terror.
If you’re like me and you adore Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula (1992), you’re probably ready to bite into Besson’s take right now. This version appears to delve deeply into the gothic romanticism, an element not particularly present in the novel but pronounced in the Coppola film. And Christoph Waltz stepping more or less into the Van Helsing role? Perfection.
The film also stars Guillaume de Tonquedec, Matilda de Angelis, Ewens Abid, and Raphael Luce (Stranger Things). Legendary composer Danny Elfman (Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas) did the score. You can read our full interview with him about taking on Dracula here.
Dracula lands in theaters on February 6th, 2026, from Vertical.
