Stephen King Praises HBO Max Crime Thriller for Great Characters and “Nailbiting suspense”

There are some actors who have an inexplicably soothing screen presence. When they appear, I feel instantly at ease. Morgan Freeman and Tom Hanks both appeal to me on that level. Just knowing that either of them stars in a film is usually enough motivation for me to sit down and watch it.

I have a similar reaction to Mark Ruffalo. He’s unassuming and relatable, very much an everyman type. As luck would have it, Ruffalo is currently starring in a new crime series on HBO, and I’m chomping at the bit to check it out. Though I haven’t gotten around to it yet, I became even more interested when I saw that Stephen King had tweeted about the series. You can see exactly what the Misery author has to say below.

What is Task about?

An FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man.

Brad Ingelsby created the miniseries for HBO and takes a writing credit on all seven installments. This isn’t his first collaboration with the network. He previously created the series Mare of Easttown for the platform, which gives me yet another reason to tune in to Task. I love the character work on that show, not to mention the intriguing mystery.

From the little I know about Task, I’ve gathered that it also features a complex and interesting character at its core. Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis is a current FBI agent and former Catholic priest. That’s an unusual origin story and one I’m eager to learn more about. If you’re curious about this new crime thriller series, you can find it streaming on HBO Max now.

That is just about all that we’ve got for you at present. Stay tuned in the near future for more film and TV recommendations from your favorite personalities in the genre space. In the meantime, be sure to follow us on Twitter (X) @DreadCentral.
