One of my favorite discoveries was 47 Meters Down, which I raved about when it was originally titled In the Deep. I’m a huge fan of Johannes Roberts, who hit a home run with his shark horror and also blew expectations out of the water with his The Strangers: Prey at Night.
Currently, Roberts is celebrating a monumental success with Primate, which is poised for a sequel. Before that, we’ll be getting a third 47 Meters Down.
Now in post, looking for release this year is 47 Meters Down: The Wreck, the third film in the franchise, this time directed by horror regular Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine), from a screenplay by Roberts and Ernest Riera.
Shoot got underway last year, but a cast was never revealed, until now. Dread learns that The Wreck will star Ron Livingston, who starred in the very first The Conjuring and the cult classic The Office, Sadie Stanley of Karate Kid: Legends fame, and Bo Bragason, who was just cast as Princess Zelda in The Legend of Zelda video game adaptation. Gary Beadle and Pierre Bergman are rounding out the cast. More to be announced.
“The story will follow a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond during a scuba diving in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. But soon after their descent, their master diver has an accident leaving them alone and unprotected inside the labyrinth of the wreck. As tensions rise and oxygen dwindles, the pair must use their newfound bond to escape the wreck and the relentless barrage of bloodthirsty great white sharks.”
Producers are James Harris, Mark Lane, and Johannes Roberts. Executive producers are Byron Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, Chris Charalambous and Matthew Signer.
