Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks have officially announced the 2026 Oscar nominations this Thursday morning for the 98th Academy Awards, and horror is represented in a major way!
I’m not sure I can remember a time when the horror genre received this many nominations with Warner Bros. Pictures’ vampire epic Sinners leading the way with a whopping 16 nods!
The film itself scored a “Best Picture” nomination, while Ryan Coogler is recognized for “Best Director” and actor Michael B. Jordan for “Actor in a Leading Role”.
The horror community let out a collective sigh of relief when Amy Madigan was given a “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” nod for her incredible performance in Weapons. An oversight here would have been even worse than when the Academy snubbed Toni Collette for her performance in Hereditary back in 2019. Madigan’s Aunt Gladys has become an instant horror icon celebrated by not only horror fans but even casual moviegoers.
For whatever reason, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein received an absurd amount of nominations, although the director didn’t receive an individual nod from the Academy.
And the horror adjacent Bugonia made a surprise appearance, landing several prominent nominations from “Best Picture” to Emma Stone‘s outstanding performance, landing her a “Actress in a leading Role” nomination.
Here’s the full breakdown of the 2026 Oscar Nominations (that include a horror title):
