As foretold by Dread Central, Netflix’s theatrical release of the “Stranger Things” series finale was a monstrous smash hit that turned theaters completely upside down for two days.
Deadline reports that the finale cleared well north of $25M, possibly even $30M(!), in concession cash to movie theaters over its New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day play. By comparison, 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash, the No. 1 grossing film of the season, made a combined $23.7M over New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, adds the site.
“Exhibition couldn’t charge for tickets to the Netflix event given the cast’s contractual terms for residuals, hence the streamer and circuits got around this by reserving seats with concession vouchers. At AMC theaters, such concession vouchers cost $20 per seat.” In short, everyone who purchased a ticket received $20 in free concessions, accidentally making this a generational event.

“‘Strangers Things’ finale played in over 620 locations, and the series creators, the Duffer Brothers, announced two days before the finale played theaters that 1.1 million seats were sold, a number that was ahead of KPop Demon Hunters RSVPs (700M) before it’s late August two-day play. “
In the series finale, as Vecna prepares to destroy the world as we know it, the party must put everything on the line to defeat him once and for all.
