Nicolas Winding Refn is back with his neon-soaked slasher, Her Private Hell, which stars Sophie Thatcher (Companion, Heretic, Yellowjackets) as a woman searching for her father as a strange mist engulfs their city and unleashes an elusive, deadly presence.
Today, the MPA released the film’s official rating, an R for some strong/bloody violence, sexual content, and language.
“The movie has myriad storylines, but fires up in a metropolis future where actresses are gathering at a posh hotel where they’re set to make a Barbarella-like movie. A heinous killer known as Leather Man is going around the city taking the lives of women.”
Here’s the official synopsis released today: “When a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis, unleashing a deadly and elusive entity, a troubled young woman searches for her father. Her quest collides with an American GI on a harrowing odyssey to rescue his daughter from hell.”
Her Private Hell also features Charles Melton (May December), Kristine Froseth, and Havana Rose Liu (No Exit), with Dougray Scott (Irvine Welsh’s Crime), Diego Calva (Babylon), Aoi Yamada (Perfect Days), Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool & Wolverine), and Hidetoshi Nishijima (Drive My Car).
Refn characterizes Her Private Hell as an original story driven by “glitter, sex, and violence,” firmly within his established stylistic territory.
It’s been ten years since Refn released Neon Demon in theaters.
Neon will release Her Private Hell in theaters everywhere on July 24, 2026.
