3 Scary "Men" in Horror Short Films That Could Give Slender Man a Run for His Money

Don't get me wrong: Slender Man's scary all right, especially since he's essentially based on true events. That, however, can play against him in major ways given the backlash and controversy of the fact that while Slender Man's merely a myth, he still happens to stir one too many pots or cook too many chickens in the kitchen. When it involves recent real events, people don't view it as horror entertainment. Just "horror." The bad serious kind.

Needless to Say, That Means We're Inundated With the Next "Slender Man" to Hit the Airwaves on a Constant Basis

Myth is a powerful thing. Rumor mills churn, and imaginations soar. Of course, not everything flies the way Slender Man did as evidenced by the slightly inspired BYE BYE MAN which failed to frighten audiences at all. Heck, even the recent actual SLENDER MAN movie didn't arouse as much fear as it honestly should have. Again, though.... This is Slender Man we're talking about. A real phenomenon, probably not meant to be on the silver screen.

Thankfully we have some sweet horror movie shorts that could very easily succeed the legend that is Slender Man and probably surpass him. These noble efforts in capitalizing on some of the tropes and thoughts we have of the "unknown" or the "unseen" or the simply bizarre somehow reinvent what scared us all about a tall man with tentacles and no face.

There was just something awe-inspiring -- and hideous -- about the guy. We're thinking, however, that these boogeyman make the grade:

THE SMILING MAN

THE SANDMAN

THE MOONLIGHT MAN

They are, quite frankly, doing something right. The "Moonlight Man" even has a sequel offering right here. It's pretty much a safe bet we're going to see any of these adapted into feature film.

Potentially very good. See below. It turns out that the announcement is official according to the Carrie Bradshaw of the Sanderson bunch (Sarah Jessica Parker): there will be a "Hocus Pocus" sequel, premiering on Disney+.
