‘Awoken’: Vertical Suffers From Fatal Familial Insomnia [Exclusive]

Vertical Entertainment has acquired the North American rights to Awoken, an Australian horror-thriller from first time writer-director Daniel J. Phillips, Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned.

In the film, “A young medical student (Sara West) attempts to cure her brother (Benson Jack Anthony) from a terminal sleep illness called Fatal Familial Insomnia…where you are unable to sleep until you die. On her quest to help him, a more sinister reason for his condition is revealed.”

Awoken also stars Jack Anthony and Erik Thompson, the latter playing the siblings’ trusted father figure who offers a new way to treat the disease.

Vertical plans to release the film in limited theaters and on VOD platforms May 8th, 2020.

Awoken was written by Alan Grace and Daniel J. Phillips, produced by Craig McMahon, Charles Billeh, John Tedesco and Daniel J. Phillips with McMahon International Pictures and Meridian Pictures.
