Screen Media has acquired all North American rights to the survival thriller Black Water: Abyss ahead of the virtual Cannes market, Bloody Disgusting learned.
The team behind the 2007 survival thriller Black Water have reunited to make the sequel, which Screen Media will release in limited theaters and on VOD platforms August 7, 2020.
In Black Water: Abyss, “A group of friends explore a remote cave system deep in the forests of Northern Australia when a tropical storm hits. As rising floodwaters trap them deep below the surface, something even deadlier emerges from the darkness – killer crocodiles.”
Director and producer team Andrew Traucki (The Reef) and Michael Robertson made Black Water: Abyss and hope to repeat the success of the original 2007 feature, which was set in Australia’s mangrove swamps and inspired by a real-life crocodile attack.
The film stars Jessica McNamee, Luke Mitchell, Amali Golden, Anthony J. Sharpe, and Benjamin Hoetjes.
