Netflix Expands “Witcher” Universe with Prequel Series “The Witcher: Blood Origin”!

Netflix announced this morning “The Witcher: Blood Origin”, a limited series that expands “The Witcher” universe.

The six part, live-action limited prequel series is set in an elven world, 1200 years before the world of “The Witcher”, the streamer tells Bloody Disgusting.

It will tell a story lost to time – the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

Henry Cavill hunts monsters as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix‘s “The Witcher,” which is based on the best-selling fantasy series. After a delay due to the pandemic, the second season aims to resume production this coming August.

“A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read ‘The Witcher’ books – What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans?” ponders Executive Producer and Showrunner Declan de Barra.

He adds: “‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher.”

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will also act as Executive Producer. Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as creative consultant on the series. Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films will all serve as executive producers.
