With Monolith Productions sadly being no more, and with it (for now), the Condemned series, gamers will need to fix their fix. Obelisk Studio is looking to provide that fix for fans with their upcoming first-person psychological horror game Displacement, which has a new cinematic trailer.
Touting “next level psychological horror” with immersive storytelling, Displacement casts players as a psychologist who finds themselves at a polar station where the staff have fallen victim to a mysterious madness. As your mind unravels, you transform from a hunted victim into a blood-soaked predator. In doing so, will you embrace the chaos and become the monster, or fight to keep your humanity?
As you lose your grip, what begins as a tense survival horror spirals into visceral action, unlocking new abilities as a result. Every encounter with a foe results in a life-or-death scenario that echoes the fights found in Monolith’s cult classic. You’ll be able to use anything at your disposal to defeat your foes. That includes the 20 melee weapons found in the game, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as the environment itself.
Displacement will also have its share of puzzles, which will involve the game’s dynamic temperature system. You’ll be equipped with a device that allows you to heat up or freeze objects at will. With it, you’ll be able to freeze locks, shatter barriers, ignite traps, or freeze enemies mid-attack. The temperature mechanic also extends to the puzzles, including redirecting heat sources to different rooms, freezing objects and so on.
Currently, Displacement is in development for PC via Steam and consoles. No release date has been announced as of yet.
