New Take on ‘The Witches’ from Director Robert Zemeckis Rated PG for “Scary Images/Moments”

Production wrapped last year on director Robert Zemeckis‘s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches for Warner Bros., which had previously been adapted by Nicolas Roeg back in 1990. And much like the 1990 film, the new take has also been rated PG by the MPAA.

The Witches is rated PG for “Scary images/moments, language and thematic elements.”

It’s been a while since we’ve heard about the project, and the fact that it’s now been rated suggests that the marketing campaign will begin soon. So stay tuned for more updates.

Described as being “visually innovative,” Zemeckis’s movie “tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy (Jahzir Kadeem Bruno) who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma (Octavia Spencer) in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. The boy and his grandmother come across some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, so Grandma wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort.”

“Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch (Anne Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.”

Produced and co-written by Guillermo del ToroThe Witches is likely arriving in 2021.
