‘Resident Evil VII’ Now The Best-Selling ‘RE’ Title Ever; ‘Resident Evil 2’ Remake Hits 7.2 Million

Capcom has once again updated their list of Platinum titles (aka those games which have sold over 1 million units), and to no one’s surprise (well, probably), Resident Evil VII is now the king of the series. RE7 has now sold approximately 7.9m units, which is second only to Monster Hunter: World‘s 16.1m units as the top-selling Capcom title ever.

Things do get interesting when you look at that number for RE7, however. If you were to combine the standalone Resident Evil 5 and its Gold Edition variant, those combined numbers would surpass RE7. If you take into account of re-releases and ports, RE7 actually sits behind RE6, RE4 and RE5.

Of course, if you really want to dig, Resident Evil 4, with all of its re-releases, would be on top with over 10 million units.

We had previously touched on the Resident Evil 3 remake’s numbers, which now stands at 2.7m units sold. Meanwhile, the Resident Evil 2 remake has now sold over 7.2m.

Moving over to the Devil May Cry series, Devil May Cry 5 has now sold 3.7m, which is still the best-selling entry in the series. However, much like RE5, if you combine DmC: Devil May Cry‘s numbers across its original release and re-releases, that entry is just 100k behind at 3.6m. The PS4/Xbox One Definitive Edition has now sold 1.1m, by the way.

And speaking of re-releases, Dead Rising on the current gen has reached 1.1m, as well.

All in all, despite the “disappointing” numbers of RE3, Capcom is right to be focusing on the Resident Evil series and its surge of popularity. That includes the upcoming Resident Evil Village, which is rumoured to have a new trailer hitting later this month.
