Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Dark Descent was one of the most important horror games of the last decade, helping to refresh an entire genre with its brand of narrative horror. Ten years on, we finally get a full sequel in the form of Amnesia: Rebirth, and it’s coming next month!
It was announced today that Amnesia Rebirth will be heading to PS4 and PC on October 20, adding another new horror game to your pre-Halloween plans alongside the likes of The Dark Pictures: Little Hope, Song of Horror, and Remothered: Broken Porcelain.
A new trailer accompanied the news, and it shows off this brand new story of brutal survival set in Algeria’s dusty deserts and creepy caves. Being Amnesia, the elements are not the only threat to the protagonist. Something far worse is out there, hidden in tombs, caverns, and strange, unknown places.
In the press release for the announcement, Creative Director Thomas Grip says the game is ‘not just another haunted house spook-fest, but an emotionally harrowing journey’. He also adds that this will be a more narrative-focused game than previous entries, with a far more fleshed out protagonist in Tasi Trianon, who is not only trying to battle fear and survive the scorching desert after escaping a plane crash, but is also seeking answers to questions concerning a dark mystery in the dunes.
It promises to be a departure of sorts from The Dark Descent, which is probably a good idea given how many games have copied that one in the past ten years.
Roll on October 20, where you’ll be able to endure this harrowing story of survival on PS4, Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store
