Deon Taylor Directing ‘Grave Hill’, Remake of Vietnamese Horror ‘The Housemaid’

The Intruder and Chain Letter director Deon Taylor is set to get behind the camera on the gothic horror-thriller Grave Hill for Parasite producer CJ Entertainment, writes Deadline. The film is an English-language remake of the hit Vietnamese horror film The Housemaid, covered extensively here on Bloody Disgusting.

In the original, an orphaned Vietnamese girl is hired to be a housemaid at a haunted rubber plantation in 1953 French Indochina. However, she unexpectedly falls in love with the French landowner and awakens the vengeful ghost of his dead wife.

The remake will take place in the American South during the Reconstruction Era, adds the site who notes that “Oscar-winner Geoffrey Fletcher (Precious) wrote the adapted screenplay with Derek Nguyen, writer-director of 2016 film The Housemaid.”

CJ Entertainment is financing, developing and producing the new English-language remake. Executive producers are CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Miky Lee, CJ Entertainment’s Jinnie Choi and Jerry Ko along with Hidden Empire’s Roxanne Taylor and Motor’s Sean Sorensen.

Producers are Don Handfield, through his Motor production banner, Timothy Linh Bui through his Happy Canvas label, Derek Nguyen, and CJ Entertainment’s Yeonu Choi.
