Yesterday, we had a big clue that another Konami title was getting a fresh PC release when Silent Hill 4: The Room went through the same ratings system that Metal Gear Solid and other Konami classics went through before appearing on game selling site GOG. Lo and behold, today, Silent Hill 4: The Room has indeed received a re-release via GOG for $9.99.
It’s obviously not the Silent Hill most would pine for, but given various complications with any re-release of Silent Hill 2 and 3, it’s the logical one. It’s also easily one of the better games in the series.
First released back in 2004, Silent Hill 4 features not the titular town, but a single locked-down apartment (how timely) where protagonist Henry Townshend can travel to a series of unearthly worlds as he comes up against a seemingly undead serial killer. The game gained praise for its departure from the previous entries, but it’s fair to say many saw it as the beginning of the series’ downturn. Personally, I find it to be one of the more interesting sequels, that evokes the spirit of the psychological horror series at its best, but with a fresh twist.
For under ten crisp ones, it’s worth the visit, or revisit to The Room that isn’t utter guff.
