‘Bloodborne’ Runs on The PS5, But Still Locked to 30fps

With all of the hoopla this week (obviously) for the launch of the PlayStation 5, and the subsequent stories regarding whether or not certain PS4 games will run with improved graphical capabilities, some of you are probably wondering about From Software’s Bloodborne. After all, Bluepoint Games’ upcoming Demon’s Souls remake is a launch title, and wouldn’t it be nice to see if that other Sony exclusive got some love? The answer is unfortunately a mixed bag.

Lance McDonald, who’s become famous for being an expert at modding/restoring cut content from From Software games, recently tweeted that with his embargo lifted, he can finally delve into the results of his testing. First off, Bloodborne does run on the PS5, which is no surprise, given that the title wasn’t on “that list” of incompatible games. Lance also tested out two other From Software titles in Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Both games sport 60fps, which is great for those who like that sort of smoothness.

In case you didn’t know, both titles were locked to 30fps on a base PS4, and uncapped on PS4 Pro, though neither hit 60fps consistently.

So, where does this leave Bloodborne? This is where the bad news comes in: the game is still in 30fps. Now why is this, you ask? Well, for the game to hit that 60fps, From Software would have to issue a patch in order for the game to take advantage of the new hardware, which simply hasn’t been done.

Lance himself took matters into his own hands, and had crafted a patch that gave Bloodborne a 60fps framerate, which worked just fine. So, the onus is clearly on Sony to get around to doing it.

But hey, the main thing is that the game plays perfectly fine on the PS5, which will no doubt please fans.

Meanwhile, the remake of Demon’s Souls will arrive on PlayStation 5 on November 12 in the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, and November 19 in the rest of the world.
