[R.I.P.] ‘Suspiria’ Co-Writer and ‘Deep Red,’ ‘Inferno’ & ‘Tenebrae’ Actress Daria Nicolodi Has Passed Away

Very sad news to report this morning as we’ve learned that actress/writer Daria Nicolodi, the former partner of Dario Argento and mother of Asia Argento, has passed away.

Nicolodi passed away today in Rome, Italy at the age of 70.

Born in Florence, Italy on June 19, 1950, Daria Nicolodi starred in several of Dario Argento’s Italian horror classics, including Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebrae, Phenomena and Opera.

Nicolodi also co-wrote 1977’s Suspiria with Dario Argento, subsequently contributing uncredited writing/story work on Inferno and later Luigi Cozzi’s The Black Cat.

As an actress, Daria Nicolodi also appeared in Mario Bava’s Shock, as well as Michele Soavi’s The Sect. In 2007, she worked with Dario and Asia Argento on Mother of Tears.

Asia Argento wrote on Instagram, “Rest in peace beloved mother. Now you can fly free with your great spirit and you won’t have to suffer anymore. I will try to go on for your beloved grandchildren and especially for you who would never want to see me so grieved. Even if without you I miss the ground under my feet, and I feel I have lost my only true point of reference. I am close to all those who have known and loved her. I will always be your Aria, Daria.”
