Psychological Horror ‘A Banquet’ Tests the Faith of IFC Midnight

IFC Midnight has summoned North American rights to Ruth Paxton’s directorial debut, the psychological horror A Banquet, Bloody Disgusting learned Thursday morning.

Sounding like a mix between Exorcist and the forthcoming Saint Maud, “Widowed mother Holly is radically tested when her teenage daughter Betsey (Jessica Alexander) experiences profound enlightenment and insists that her body is no longer her own, but in service to a higher power. Bound to her newfound faith Betsey refuses to eat, but loses no weight. In an agonizing dilemma torn between love and fear, Holly is forced to confront the boundaries of her own beliefs.”

A Banquet also stars Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil series, High Rise), Ruby Stokes (Rocks, Una), and award-winning actress Lindsay Duncan CBE (Made in Italy, Private Lives).

The feature is written by AFI alumnus Justin Bull and was shot on location in London during July and August 2020.

Producers on the picture are Leonora Darby, Mark Lane and James Harris for Tea Shop Productions (47 Meters Down, I Am Not A Serial Killer, Cockneys Vs Zombies), Nik Bower (Final Portrait, The Wedding Guest) for Riverstone Pictures and Laure Vaysse (Tell It to the Bees) for REP Productions 8 Ltd, which also funded the production.

Deepak Nayar of Motion Picture Capital serves as Executive Producer, alongside Jeremy Baxter of Riverstone Pictures and Patrick Fischer and Richard Kondal of Creativity Capital.
