Sixpence None the Kenny-er.
After having some holiday fun with Krampus and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, we got serious with Better Watch Out before taking a slight holiday break with The Cell. Now, we’re ringing in the new year with Roger Spottiswoode‘s classic 1980 slasher Terror Train.
In Terror Train, a fraternity of pre-med students has a particularly sinister prank in store for one their more timid pledges, Kenny Hampson (Derek MacKinnon). With the help of coed Alana Maxwell (Jamie Lee Curtis), the prank has such disastrous results that Kenny needs to be institutionalized. After several years pass and people forget the incident, those involved with the prank are ready to celebrate their graduation by having a costume party on a train; but someone on board knows what they did and wants to make them pay.

Episode 106 – Terror Train (1980)
Happy New Year, everyone! We’re hopping aboard a party train to ring in the new year with Roger Spottiswoode’s Jamie Lee Curtis-starring slasher film Terror Train! Joining us for the bash are Chris Moore and Kevin Jones, the co-hosts of the Homos on Haunted Hill podcast!
Join us as we discuss the slasher go-to of pranks being the reason for someone killing a bunch of horny dumb-dumbs, read into the queer coding of Doc (Hart Bochner….again!) and Mo (Timothy Webber), and instigate the #JusticeForMitchy movement.
Plus: yearbooks in college? Another cross-dressing serial killer? Lots of magic with David Copperfield! And how about that 2008 would-be remake starring Thora Birch?
Oh, and if you’d like to read the interview with Derek MacKinnon (Kenny Hampson) that we reference in the episode, you can do so here.
Cross out Terror Train!
Coming up on Wednesday: We’re kicking off the new year (and our podcast’s third year of existence) with a marathon of 3s! That’s right, we’ll be watching third entries in major horror franchises throughout all of January and we’re kicking things off with the much-maligned Scream 3!
