The Dumb, Sacrilegious Fun of ‘Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth’ [Horror Queers Podcast]

Hellraiser High.

We’re still riding high from our first week of 2021 when we went deep and looooong on Scream 3. Now it’s time to turn our attention to the Hellraiser franchise, a personal fave of mine and this week’s guest, Bryan Christopher.

We’ve already covered the problematic 4th entry Bloodline on the pod, but before Pinhead went to space, he tried to take over a nightclub!

In Anthony Hickox‘s 1992 film, intrepid reporter Joey (Terry Farrell) befriends Terry (Paula Marshall) after a strange incident at the hospital. The path leads the women back to sleazy/sexy nightclub owner J.P. Monroe (Kevin Bernhardt) whose ambition catches the attention of Pinhead (Doug Bradley), who has been imprisoned in a pillar after his battle with Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) in the first two films.

Soon enough all hell has broken loose, leading to plenty of fun and just a teensy bit of sacrilege…at least enough for series creator Clive Barker to sign on to “present”.

Episode 107 – Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992) feat. Bryan Christopher

Our month of 3s continues with Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, the third entry in the Hellraiser franchise and who better to join us than mega fan Bryan Christopher? In the 1992 Anthony Hickox-directed film, the action shifts from the UK to New York (cough North Carolina cough) as Doug Bradley’s Pinhead channels Freddy and Wishmaster while tempting a playboy club owner, a homeless runaway and an ambitious reporter.

Expect another troubled production, the first use of CGI in a horror film and not one, but TWO over the top set pieces, including an infamous nightclub murder spree and a blasphemous church sequence. Plus: pillar jokes, kitchen fires and lots of tangents about the terrible sequels in the franchise’s back half.

Cross out Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth!

Coming up on Wednesday: With only two more picks left in our month of 3s, we’re travelling back to the 80s for Psycho 3 (1986), which is directed by the star of the series himself: Anthony Perkins!

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
