While I wasn’t much of a fan of Elysium or Chappie, I do love Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi extravaganza District 9, his first tribute to James Cameron’s Aliens that was about “an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth.” – (IMDb)
Blomkamp, who was once working in a live-action Halo film, used his visual effects resources to turn in a low budget sci-fi epic that looked as expensive as a Marvel movie. Having just completed the EFM project Demonic, it looks as if he’s primed to return to his roots and get behind the camera for a D9 sequel.
Blomkamp revealed in the following tweet that District 10 is currently being co-written by District 9 screenwriter Terri Tatchell with star Sharlto Copley!
District 10 screenplay also being written by @sharlto @territatchell and I. Its coming…

The filmmaker has openly talked about plans for a sequel over the years, noting that he’d continue the story from District 9‘s cliffhanger ending. Back in 2015, he told IGN that the concept for the first film was a “story about the Nazi becoming the Holocaust victim,” which really does feel timely and open the door for fresh commentary.
There’s not much else to share at the moment, but watch this spot for more news as it comes in.
