If you’re in the market for a dark fantasy hack-and-slash, then Fallen Flag Studio’s Eldest Souls might be your thing. Similar to another soulslike in Blasphemous, Eldest Souls is a pixel-based action game that has you testing your reflexes in combat.
The story concerns the aforementioned Old Gods, who have been imprisoned in a citadel, while humanity is at peace. However, the Old Gods don’t take too kindly to this, and have unleashed a great Desolation upon the world, resulting in famine and death. The Great Crusade was created as a result, but all who tried to slay the Imprisoned Gods failed. Now it’s your turn.
Defeating each god will grant you their power, unlocking talents and abilities along the way. Of course, you’re not just killing gods. The citadel still needs to be traversed, and there are NPCs to converse with and quests to undertake. Not to mention that the Citadel holds more than a few mysteries of its own.
Eldest Souls is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam) in Q2 2021.
