‘Promising Young Woman’ Filmmaker Emerald Fennell Writing ‘Zatanna’ Movie for DC and WB!

Fresh off the Oscar-nominated revenge movie Promising Young Woman, we’ve learned today that writer/director Emerald Fennell will next be making her way into the DC Universe!

Variety reports that Fennell will be writing the Zatanna movie for DC/Warner Bros., a superhero character created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson back in 1964.

The movie will mark the character’s big screen debut in the DC Extended Universe.

Variety reminds, “Zatanna is a magician, considered one of the most powerful sorcerers in the DC universe. Her abilities are genetic, as her dad Giovanni Zatara was also an alchemist.”

Serinda Swann had played Zatanna in the television series “Smallville.”

J.J. Abrams will be producing the film through Bad Robot.
