Russian Creature Feature ‘Sputnik’ Getting an English-Language Remake from Producer Matt Reeves

It was only just released last year but the excellent Russian horror movie Sputnik is already getting an English-language remake, we’ve learned courtesy of Deadline this morning.

Matt Reeves (The Batman) is producing the American take on the Russian movie for his 6th & Idaho, alongside Village Roadshow Pictures (Joker) and XYZ Films (Mandy).

“Set in the Soviet Union in 1980s during the midst of the Cold War, the film follows a young female doctor who is recruited by the military to assess a cosmonaut who survived a mysterious space accident and returned to Earth with a dangerous organism living inside him.”

“We believe Sputnik will translate well to English-speaking audiences and continue to captivate moviegoers worldwide with its thrilling story. We are eager to begin production and believe we have some of the best partners in the industry to reimagine Egor’s original vision while staying true to the film’s journey,” said Village Roadshow’s Jillian Apfelbaum.

Egor Abramenko directed the original movie, which is now available on Blu-ray.
