‘Godzilla vs. Kong’: Adam Wingard Reveals That One of Kong’s Monster Kills Was Inspired by ‘Jason X’!

One of the most fun moments in Jason X comes when Jason is brought back to Crystal Lake with a little help from a VR simulation, and while there he kills two women in an homage to the iconic sleeping bag murder scene from Friday the 13th: The New Blood. He traps one of the teens in her sleeping bag, and proceeds to brutally beat her body against her friend’s.

It’s a moment Adam Wingard is a huge fan of, because he just revealed over on Reddit this week that the sleeping bag scene from Jason X actually inspired a kill in Godzilla vs. Kong!

Wingard explains, “The big reference that I haven’t seen anyone pick up on is when Kong folds up and kills Nozuki (aka warbat) that was inspired by the holo deck murder scene in JASON X when Jason picks up the camper in their sleeping bag and smashes them around.”

The scene from Godzilla vs. Kong that Wingard is referring to takes place inside Hollow Earth, and indeed Kong wraps Nozuki up in his own wings and proceeds to beat him against the ground, Jason X style. An homage we didn’t notice before, but now won’t be able to unsee.

Find Godzilla vs. Kong on HBO Max and relive Jason X‘s sleeping bag kill scene below!
