[Watch] This Month’s World of Death Bites into ‘Dames’, ‘Night of the Rotten Intruder’ and ‘I Was a Teenage Nosferatu’!

Hola, amigos. Welcome back to the World of Death! I know it’s been a while since I rapped at ya, but people at my day job at the nursing home found my Twitter account and I pretty much had to go in hiding for a couple of months.

First up this month we have Dames, a movie that employs fewer camera setups than it has minutes in its running time. Written, directed and edited by Matthew Goodhue, Dames is equal parts vampires, rock and roll, and LA. Interesting bit of trivia here; the short gets its title from a song by Los Angeles rock band American Tomahawk of which lead actor Adam Halferty is a member. It has sweet tunes, inventive camera work, and a Repo Man-esque ending. This short is so good I don’t know whether to love it (because it’s so good) or hate it (because it’s so good and I didn’t make it). Kudos to Matthew Goodhue, can’t wait for his upcoming full-length film Woe.

Next up we have La Notte Dell’Intruso Marcio aka Night of the Rotten Intruder. Written and directed by Brayden Read (Spannerbot), this movie literally had me yelling “Oh shit!” at the TV screen within the first four minutes. Laney Neuman is a revelation as Erin. Hope to see more IMDB credits associated with her name in the near future.

Bringing up the caboose this month is I Was a Teenage Nosferatu, directed by Jeff Kacmarynski, written by David Busboom and Shelby Koehne. I went to film school for a bit and one of the inevitabilities of each year’s student film festival was the Silent Film. Without fail, someone would make a silent-era throwback to a Rhapsody in Blue score, with arching eyebrows and broad slapstick humor. The worst part is the f*ckers always won an award! The judges couldn’t help themselves. It was supposed to teach us a lesson that you don’t need dialogue or “sound” to tell a story. Well, the filmmakers behind IWATN must have had a similar experience because what they produced is such a masterful nod to silent storytelling it doesn’t need dialogue either. This one has got the goods. Shot on location in Champaign, IL!

That’s enough out of me this month. Take a hot minute to check out these films. Hit me up on the new Twitter to let me know what you think.

@DoctorX2112: Doctor X is the alias I’m going under now and 2112 is just because I’m a huge Rush fan.

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
