“I Know Exactly Where the Story Goes”: Zack Snyder Hopes to Make an ‘Army of the Dead’ Sequel

This article contains Army of the Dead spoilers.

Zack Snyder never did get a chance to make a sequel to his remake of George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, but his return to zombie world with the new Netflix movie Army of the Dead is going to afford him the opportunity to create a whole franchise for the streaming service. In fact, an animated prequel series and a live-action prequel film are already in the works.

The animated series, titled “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas,” centers on Dave Bautista’s character from Army of the Dead, telling the origin story of the film’s zombie apocalypse. The live action film, on the other hand, is titled Army of Thieves, and it’s a solo film for Matthias Schweighöfer’s Dieter, who assists in a heist of impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.

But what about a proper *sequel* to Army of the Dead? In a new chat with Entertainment Tonight, Snyder teases that he knows “exactly where the story goes” from here.

“We’re in the middle of making an animated prequel, that is adult animation. It dives into the zombie origins, and we get a sense of what’s going on there,” Snyder explains. “And then Matthias has shot already, and we’re in the process of completing, his prequel. Dieter’s story… sort of a romantic comedy heist film. It tells where he was before Scott and crew find him.”

He continues, “And look… if there was ever a desire for more Army of the Dead, Shay [Hatten] and I know exactly where the story goes. So yeah. We’re ready.”

Not unlike a Zack Snyder superhero movie, Army of the Dead indeed does end with a sequel tease, with Omari Hardwick’s Vanderohe making it out of Las Vegas alive… with a bite. On a plane to Mexico City, Vanderohe is in the early stages of becoming a zombie when the film comes to a close, suggesting that the zombie virus is spreading beyond the walls of Las Vegas.

Presumably, a sequel would see Army of the Dead leaving Vegas behind completely, with the infection spreading in a more Dawn of the Dead-esque way. Here’s hoping we get to see it!

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
