Listen to a Pair of ‘Spiral’ Tracks by Charlie Clouser from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack [Exclusive]

While Spiral: From the Book of Saw opens in theaters today, Lakeshore Records is set to release the Spiral—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on May 21 with music by Charlie Clouser (SAW series, Resident Evil: Extinction), a previous member of Nine Inch Nails who has also worked with Prong and White Zombie.

“The tension runs high in Clouser’s score with intense electronic percussion and modified drum machines mixing with his trademark bowed metal instruments as well as the addition of a new Chas Smith instrument creation, the ‘Tio’, that all serve to distinguish this score from his past work,” explains the press release about the OST, which can be pre-saved by clicking here.

“Since a lot of the action in Spiral takes place in the outside world instead of in some dank dungeon somewhere, I wanted the score to have a brighter, more percussive feel than in some of the previous films,” explains Clouser of the film’s unique score. “There’s less of the murky, underwater gloom and more tension-building rhythms, a bit more high-energy feel to many of the scenes.  Of course, the familiar murky feel is still there when things get dark, but it’s not the dominant voice in the score any more.

“I used some modified and ‘circuit-bent’ drum machines and other weird electronic percussion to get a more urgent and propulsive feel, and there are moments in the score when we bring in some influences from modern trap beats and other pop music influences.  So that’s a bit of a shift in tone from many of the previous films as well.”

Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive taste of two of the tracks, “Boz” and “Waxed”, the former of which Clouser tells us “features lots of girthy low brass chords, and accompanies a scene in which we learn the horrible truth about one of our main characters.”

Adds Clouser about the track “Waxed”:

“This track is the lead-in to one of the more grisly deaths in Spiral, and is a bit of high-energy action as one of our main characters scrambles to escape the inevitable trap, and fails.”

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
