Produced by Jessica Biel, Freeform‘s new series “Cruel Summer” sets itself apart from other shows with a storyline that jumps between the same day across three different years, and the 1990s-set drama-thriller has proven to be enough of a hit to warrant a second season. In fact, “Cruel Summer” is a *massive* hit for Freeform, and the network’s most watched series ever.
Deadline reports today that “Cruel Summer” will indeed be back for Season Two!
The site reports, “However, how the Jessica Biel-exec produced series returns is still up in the air; the mystery could return with a new story with the same characters and actors or using the same storytelling device featuring a whole new cast of characters.”
The first season, meanwhile, wraps up with its finale tonight, June 15th.
The series “takes place over three summers in the ’90s when a beautiful and popular teen goes missing, and a seemingly unrelated girl transforms from a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town, eventually becoming the most despised person in America.”
“Each episode is said to be told from the POV of one of the two main girls (Jeanette and Kate), which will have the viewer’s loyalties constantly shifting as more information is revealed.”
The series stars Olivia Holt, with Chiara Aurelia, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee, Brooklyn Sudano and Sarah Drew.
