Finding Stephen King at the End of Fear Street [The Losers’ Club Podcast]

Curses. Mysteries. Murder. The streets of Shadyside are stained with blood and the teens are always in danger. This is the perilous world of R.L. Stine’s Fear Street, the ’90s young adult series that inspired an entire generation of readers to vanish into the stacks in search of the spooky. Naturally, many of them became Constant Readers of Stephen King.

Fear Street is on the mind lately, thanks to Netflix’s new trilogy of films this month from director Leigh Janiak (see: Fear Street 1994, 1978, 1666). Because of this, the Losers have teamed up with Kelly Nugent and Lindsay Katai of the Teen Creeps podcast to chart their respective journeys from Shadyside to King’s Dominion — a journey familiar to many.

Beyond King, however, the four discuss their Fear Street origins, their favorite titles, the recurring themes and motifs of the series, and why Stine’s work continues to resonate with newer generations today. They also weigh in on Janiak’s trilogy and debate whether or not the films capture the spirit and tone of the books. So, a lot to unpack here.

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
