Poster for James Wan’s ‘Malignant’ Hammers In the Tension! [Exclusive]

After co-creating the SAW and Insidious franchises, and also giving birth to The Conjuring Universe, horror maestro James Wan drove off into mainstream with a Fast and the Furious sequel and DC’s Aquaman. But before the titan dove back into his Aquaman sequel, he returned to his roots with the Giallo-inspired Malignant, which Warner Bros./New Line Cinema will release in theaters day-and-date with HBO Max on September 10, 2021.

Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive poster debut ahead of this morning’s trailer drop! The striking piece of art immediately grabs the attention, taking a stab at eye trauma and calling to mind classic eye mutilation scenes from Lucio Fulci’s Zombie to Dario Argento’s Opera, Guinea Pig, and even Final Destination 5.

In addition to the one-sheet, we also scored the film’s first synopsis:

“In the film, Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.”

“I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with,” Wan has previously teased.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise but Malignant has been rated “R” for:

“Strong horror violence, gruesome images, and for language.”

The cast includes Annabelle Wallis, Maddie HassonMckenna Grace, Jake AbelGeorge YoungIngrid BisuMichole Briana White and Jacqueline McKenzie.

Trailer soon.
