Once promised to be an R-rated franchise, Columbia PIctures dialed back the violence with the first Venom, giving it a PG-13 that irritated hardcore comic book fans. It didn’t make all that much of a difference, but it did de-tooth the supervillain that was known for ultra-violence.
Being that the first film didn’t go all-out, it doesn’t come as a shock to report that the sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, is rated PG-13 for “intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material and suggestive references.”
Venom 2 is directed this time by Andy Serkis with Tom Hardy returning as Eddie Brock, who is of course also the alien symbiote known as Venom. Woody Harrelson, who popped up as Cletus Kasady in the first film’s post-credits scene, ultimately becomes Carnage in the film.
Michelle Williams is also back, with Naomie Harris co-starring as Shriek.
Let there be Carnage on October 15th.
