“We’re a Long Way From Giving Up” – Jason Blum Updates On the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Movie

As we’ve now reported several times over the years, Blumhouse and Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon have been developing a film adaptation of the games for quite a while now, with Gremlins writer Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) most recently attached to direct. Columbus is now off the project, alas.

Chris Columbus is no longer attached,” producer Jason Blum told Collider last week.

What does this mean for the project? Is it now officially dead in the water? According to Blum, his company hasn’t yet given up on bringing Five Nights at Freddy’s to the screen.

Blum explains to Collider, “We’ve written multiple scripts, and we’ve got where we’re threading a needle, which is doing justice to Five Nights at Freddy’s and making Scott happy. I don’t want to do something that Scott doesn’t like. Let me say that a different way. I don’t have the right to do anything Scott doesn’t like. Basically, Scott has kind of like the equivalent of ‘final cut’ and it’s taken longer than I hoped to get the right story.”

He adds…

We’re a long way from giving up. And I’m confident eventually I will figure it out.

Just last year it seemed that Scott Cawthon was happy with the script that Blumhouse had come up with, and filming was gearing up to begin this Spring, but it looks like the team has gone back to the drawing board in the wake of that particular update. At this point, every update on the project is mostly the same, with Blumhouse struggling to crack the script.

Long story short? Don’t expect this one anytime soon…

The Top 10 Streaming Scary Movies of Today (According to Netflix)

Given that Netflix really is the master of their own data, how many times a viewer streams The Ridiculous 6, or what films don't get watched all the way straight through, or how many times someone watches an episode of Bill Nye Saves the World, it was easy for them to come up with the list based on just one percentage: 70 percent.
