Apogee Entertainment Taking Over Publishing Duties for ‘Rise of the Triad’ Remaster

3D Realms has announced per Games Press that the upcoming remaster of the classic shooter Rise of the Triad will be handled by some familiar faces. The shooter will now be published by Apogee Entertainment when it releases later this year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

In case you’re not up on your ROTT history, the original 1994 shooter was published by Apogee when it was known as Apogee Software. They also handled the first two Duke Nukem games.

“While there’s a special place in our heart for Rise of the Triad, we know it’s in good hands with our friends at Apogee Entertainment,” said 3D Realms CEO Frederik Schreiber. “While we never mind having to drag out a CRT monitor to play old favorites, we hope this release helps new players experience this classic.”

Not to be confused with the 2013 remake (which Apogee Software also published while Slipgate Ironworks developed), this all-new remaster of the original game is a brand-new Source port, with widescreen resolution support, a classic mode, mouselook support, and revamped multiplayer component.

In the original Rise of the Triad, you play as one of five members of H.U.N.T. (High-Risk United Nations Taskforce). You’re tasked with investigating deadly cult activity on San Nicolas Island. As luck would have it, your boat is blown up after you arrive, and now you’ve got to stop the cult from blowing up Los Angeles.
