Longtime ‘Batman’ Voice Actor Kevin Conroy Has Passed Away at 66

Considered by many Batman fans to be the definitive representation of the character, beloved Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy has passed away at 66, we’ve learned today.

According to an official release, Conroy lost a short battle with cancer.

Kevin Conroy is best known for his voice role as the DC Comics character Batman/Bruce Wayne in “Batman: The Animated Series” back in the 1990s, a role he continued to play thanks to the incredible popularity of his performance. Conroy went on to voice the character for multiple animated movies from DC over the years – including Batman: Mask of the Phantasm in 1993 and Batman Beyond: The Movie in 1999 – along with the acclaimed video games Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009), Batman: Arkham City (2011) and Batman: Arkham Knight (2015).

Kevin Conroy can be heard as Batman in everything from “The New Batman Adventures” to “Superman: The Animated Series,” “Batman Beyond,” “Justice League,” “Justice League Unlimited,” Batman: The Killing Joke, “Justice League Action,” and the list quite literally goes on and on, with Conroy playing a live action Bruce Wayne in “Batwoman” back in 2019.

As noted on his official IMDb page, “In a tally of performances that include every episode, movie and guest appearance made as Batman, Conroy has portrayed the character longer than any other actor in either live-action or animation.” IMDb also notes in Conroy’s bio, “He is the only actor to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in both animation and live-action adaptations.”

Outside the realm of the Caped Crusader, Kevin Conroy’s credits include “Another World,” “Kennedy,” “Search for Tomorrow,” “Ohara,” “Tour of Duty,” “The Office,” Yoga Hosers, “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” and “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.”

“Kevin was far more than an actor whom I had the pleasure of casting and directing – he was a dear friend for 30+ years whose kindness and generous spirit knew no boundaries,” casting and dialogue director Andrea Romano said in a statement today. “Kevin’s warm heart, delightfully deep laugh and pure love of life will be with me forever.”
