We finally have some insight of what to expect in 28 Years Later.
Ralph Fiennes recently dialed in to discuss his career in an interview with IndieWire. The actor spoke about playing Amon Goeth in Schindler’s List and Laszlo de Almasy in The English Patient. The interview was focused on his latest role of Cardinal Lawrence in the film Conclave. In the film, Fiennes character is tasked with one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events — participating in the selection of a new pope. Surrounded by powerful religious leaders in the halls of the Vatican, he soon uncovers a trail of deep secrets that could shake the very foundation of the Roman Catholic Church.
As the interview continued, the focus shifted gears and Fiennes discussed his upcoming role of a good doctor in 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s follow-up to 28 Days Later. “It’s three films, of which two have been shot,” he said. “Britain is 28 years into this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid humans with a few pockets of uninfected communities. And it centers on a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, around them hiding in forests and hills and woods are the infected. But he finds a doctor who is a man we might think is going to be weird and odd, but actually is a force for good.”
While that was all that was divulged, it was one of the biggest hints we have so far of what’s to take place in that world.
