In addition to The Substance earning a total five nominations, Fede Alvarez’s horror sequel Alien: Romulus is also getting some major love at the Golden Globes Awards this year.
Alien: Romulus, which scared up $350 million at the worldwide box office, has been nominated in the “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” category, which is officially described by the Golden Globes as “an award to recognize the year’s most acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have garnered extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence, as determined by Golden Globe voters.”
The official eligibility and consideration rules further detail, “Productions are eligible for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award if they earn a gross box office receipt total of at least $150 million worldwide during the qualifying year (of which $100 million must come from the U.S. domestic box office), and/or obtain commensurate digital streaming viewership according to recognized trusted industry sources within the qualifying year.”

Alien: Romulus is now available on physical media and VOD outlets, and it’s streaming on Hulu.
In Alien: Romulus, “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Next year’s Golden Globes ceremony will take place on January 5, 2025.
