The Twisty, Genre-Blending Mysteries of ‘I See You’ [Horror Queers Podcast]

BROOOOMHN.

November wound up covering a lot of ground. We dipped a toe into pre-Code territory with Albert Ray’s 1932 title The Thirteenth Guest (listen), stayed at “Aaron’s” cabin in Creep 2 (listen), and got our hair done with Jill Gevargizian’s 2020 film The Stylist (listen).

Now we’re talking about gay screenwriter Devon Graye and director Adam Randall‘s under seen and under rated thriller I See You (2019).

In the film, police detective Greg (Jon Tenney) is struggling with his wife Jackie (Helen Hunt)’s infidelity as he works a new case with partner Spitzky (Gregory Alan Williams). The case is a child abduction that bears a striking similarity to events from 15 years ago. As Greg and Jackie’s teenage son Conor (Judah Lewis) blames his mother, strange events begin occurring around the house.

Meanwhile, a pair of troubled teens – Mindy (Libe Barer) and Alec (Owen Teague) – take refuge in a house, but Alec’s increasingly dangerous behavior threatens them in unanticipated ways.

How are the stories all connected? What is actually going on under the surface of this suburban neighborhood? And will everyone survive to learn the truth?

Episode 311: I See You (2019)

We’re celebrating director Adam Randall’s under seen puzzle film I See You (2019) for its fifth anniversary.

From the film’s terrible marketing to its plethora of twists, there’s a lot to discuss, including a potentially uncomfortable reading about (implied) sexual molestation.

Plus: queer writer Devon Graye, Helen Hunt’s return, phrogging in horror, and *that* score!

Cross out I See You!

Coming up on Wednesday: It’s time for another episode on a Joel Schumacher title, so let’s “celebrate” his 2004 collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber The Phantom of the Opera.
