Joel Potrykus is a king of weird and wild indie cinema. With films under his belt like Ape, Buzzard, and Relaxer, he imbues his work with a punk, DIY sensibility. And that’s especially true in his new film, Vulcanizadora, coming soon from Oscilloscope Laboratories. If you’re a fan of pitch-black comedies that build to a shocking conclusion, you’re going to want to check this out ASAP.
In the film:
Two friends trudge through a Michigan forest with the intention of following through on a disturbing pact. Once their plan goes shockingly awry, the surreal and haunting consequences of their failure can’t stay hidden for long.
Watch the official trailer below:
Joshua Burge, Joel Potrykus, Bill Vincent, Solo Potrykus, and Melissa Blanchard star in the new pitch-black comedy. Hannah Dweck, Matt Grady, Ashley Potrykus, and Theodore Schaefer serve as producers.
In her review of the film, Dread Central’s Mary Beth McAndrews wrote,
Vulcanizadora is a film where talking around most of the plot is necessary for the best impact. But suffice to say, Potrykus has delivered another banger (pun intended) that’s the perfect coming-of-age story they’d show in hell, or at least purgatory. With few words, Potrykus weaves a story about the power of male friendships, for better or worse, that moves slowly but rewards those willing to go at its speed. It’s worth the ride. I guarantee it.
Vulcanizadora comes to select theaters on May 2, 2025.
