EXCLUSIVE: The Haunted Forest Trailer Teases A Halloween To Remember

the haunted forest

For someone who lives and breathes horror movies, haunted attractions terrify me. Everything unfolding on screen, where I can pause or stop? Easy. Being up close and personal with someone dressed like they want to murder me? No, thanks. And it’s thanks to movies like writer and director Keith Boynton’s upcoming release, The Haunted Forest, that keep feeding into my (admittedly irrational) fear.

Read the full synopsis below:

Zach, a high-school senior obsessed with all things horror and Halloween, lands his first job – as a scare actor at the famous Markoff’s Haunted Forest attraction in Maryland, owned by his cousin. Zach soon makes friends with the band of other misfits who fuel the fear for expectant visitors. But after one of them dies tragically on the grounds, a series of strange killings begin, and Zach finds himself questioning his fascination with death and devotion to the macabre.

Now, check out the new trailer:

Boynton said about The Haunted Forest in his director’s statement:

The Haunted Forest is a love letter to slasher films, as well as an examination of what makes them so compelling. What is it about violence and death that fascinates us so much? What kind of catharsis are we looking for—what kind of deep human need are we fulfilling —when we watch a teenager run from a man with a knife? This movie both celebrates and interrogates the horror genre, but hopefully in a way that never feels dry or academic. At its heart, it’s a genre film, with a deep love for the genre it both embodies and critiques.

Grayson Gwaze, Kaitlyn Lunardi, Cedric Gegel, and Meghan Reed star in the upcoming film.

The Haunted Forest has its world Premiere at FrightFest Film Festival in London on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
