Released in 1988, The Chiodo Brothers’ Killer Klowns from Outer Space has developed a massive circus tent of fans. Many—myself included—consider it to be the ringleader of killer clown movies (sorry, Pennywise). Recently, that fandom has resulted in all sorts of fun memorabilia, from Killer Klowns mugs to T-shirts and even a snow globe. But one obvious item has been missing.
Discovered on a Reddit thread, we at Dread Central have learned of an unofficial Killer Klowns from Outer Space firework! Released through Cutting Edge Fireworks and dubbed the “Happy Clown Bomb”, the box displays a not-so-film-accurate image of what appears to be the “Rudy” clown. Apparently, it shoots flaming balls. Neat.
Say Hello to The ‘Happy Clown Bomb’
This isn’t exactly “new” news, as the “Happy Clown Bomb” was released seven years ago. But I’d bet this is the first time most of you’re hearing about it. More surprisingly, this is, to our knowledge, still the only firework to tie into Killer Klowns from Outer Space. And that needs to change.
Not just because we’ve seen such an explosion of Killer Klown products in recent years. A Killer Klowns firework just makes sense. The Chiodo Brothers understood as much. After all, the blowing up of the Klowns’ spaceship at the end of the film doesn’t result in a ball of fire as you’d expect, but a gorgeous firework display of sparkling triumph.
As you’ll see below, the “Happy Clown Bomb” isn’t exactly as magical as that, but I still love the idea of owning a firework with a Klown’s face on it (even if it is unofficial).
The downside? It appears you have to be a fireworks retailer in order to purchase a batch (insert sad clown frown).
Still, the mere fact that this is out there tells me the Killer Klowns fandom is stronger than ever, and that’s a cotton-candy treat of good news in itself.
