Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are dialing back into retro terror with Black Phone 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Scott Derrickson’s 2022 horror hit.
Four years have passed since 13-year-old Finn (Mason Thames) escaped his abductor and killed The Grabber. Now 17, Finn is still haunted by the ordeal — but evil doesn’t die so easily. Ethan Hawke reprises his chilling role as the masked child killer, who reaches out from beyond the grave to target Finn’s younger sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).

Plagued by dream-calls from the black phone and visions of three boys being hunted at Alpine Lake, Gwen convinces her brother to confront their family’s past during a violent winter storm. At the snowbound camp, they uncover a devastating link between The Grabber and their own history — forcing the siblings to face a killer even more powerful in death than he was in life.
Derrickson once again directs from a script co-written with longtime collaborator C. Robert Cargill, adapting characters created by Joe Hill. The film is produced by Derrickson, Cargill, and Jason Blum, with Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld executive producing.
The cast expands with Oscar nominee Demián Bichir (The Nun), Arianna Rivas (A Working Man), Miguel Mora (The Black Phone), Maev Beaty (Beau Is Afraid), and Graham Abbey (Under the Banner of Heaven). Jeremy Davies also returns as Finn and Gwen’s troubled father, Terrence.
The first Black Phone was a breakout success, grossing more than $160 million worldwide and earning critical acclaim for its blend of supernatural dread and emotional storytelling. With Hawke back behind the mask, Black Phone 2 promises to push the franchise into darker, more personal territory.
