Matthew Lillard on Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ Series: “It’s Really fantastic”

Matthew Lillard has a respectable genre resume that spans films like Scream13 Ghosts, and, let us never forget, his early-career appearance in the camp classic Ghoulies Go to College. He continues to regularly pop up in horror fare to this day, with upcoming roles in Scream 7 and Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series on the horizon. Speaking of the latter, Lillard recently sat down with GamesRadar+ and revealed that we’re all in for a treat when Carrie lands on Prime Video.

The actor, who plays Principal Grayle in the series, tells the outlet that the show is “brilliant,” and “It’s really a pure adaptation of the book [more] than the original movie was.”

Lillard isn’t just speculating regarding the series’ efficacy. He has watched the finished product. “…we saw the first three episodes cut before we even left Vancouver, Mike had already finished and picture-locked the first three episodes, which was remarkable. But the show’s great. It’s really fantastic. The only thing that sucks is you have to wait a year to see it, because it’s so good.”

Though it’s a bummer that we have to wait until 2026 for Flanagan’s take on the property to land on Prime Video, it’s promising that Lillard is so enthusiastic about the project.

Summer H. Howell will feature as Carrie White in the series, with Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Josie Toah, Arthur Conti, and Joel Oulette rounding out the cast.

We’ll continue to keep you in the loop as we learn more about this project. Stay tuned.
