It’s gonna be a scream, baby! It won’t be long now before Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group unleash Scream 7 into theaters. And according to Matthew Lillard (iconic for his role in the first film), fans are going to be excited with the new sequel.
During an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Lillard discussed returning to the popular slasher franchise created by writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven. “[Kevin] pitched the idea, I was excited to read it, and I got the script a couple of weeks later,” the actor told the outlet. “I think it’s great. Wes [Craven] would be very proud. It’s in the lines of what the franchise used to be. I think the franchise was in a great place with that new team. Melissa was fantastic, the boys were great, and Radio Silence were fantastic directors.“
Lillard then went on to reveal, “Kevin’s take is a little more traditional in terms of the Scream franchise, and I think people are going to be excited. I hope they are. Early on, testing has been through the roof, which is thrilling. I’m excited to see what happens.“
By all accounts, it certainly sounds as if Scream fans can expect a back to basics return with Williamson directing this time around. Personally, I can’t wait to see how they bring head-crushed-by-a-TV Lillard back.
In Scream 7, when a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.
The film also stars Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos
The latest Scream sequel was written by Kevin Williamson and Guy Busick, from a story by James Vanderbilt and Busick, based on Williamson’s original characters.
Scream 7 slashes into theaters February 26 2026.
