A24 has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Backrooms, its long-awaited feature adaptation of the viral internet horror sensation.
Set for a theatrical release on May 29, 2026, the film is directed by Kane Parsons, the creator behind the massively popular Backrooms YouTube series. Parsons launched the project as a teenager, quickly racking up millions of views and drawing industry attention for his immersive world-building and unsettling realism.
His jump from digital horror phenom to studio filmmaker stands as one of the most notable creator-to-theatrical transitions in recent genre history. The film arrives the same month Focus Features and Blumhouse debut Obsession, directed by fellow online creator Curry Barker.
The feature stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, lending dramatic weight to the eerie, liminal nightmare.
Backrooms opens exclusively in theaters May 29 from A24.
