It’s the coldest winter I can remember here in Chicago, and local breakout star Jake Connelly is basking in it, set to star in the local thriller Blood on the Ice, reports Variety.
Bangkok-based Mbrella Films has commenced production on its inaugural American feature, which is currently shooting on location in central Illinois.
The character-driven thriller starring the Stranger Things breakout unfolds against the backdrop of a harsh Midwestern winter, utilizing the extreme environment as a key dramatic element.
The project, co-produced with IB Films, is helmed by director Justin Hayward and produced by Adam Pray.
Kelli Garner (pictured below; The Aviator, Lars and the Real Girl) leads the cast, joined by Jake Connelly and former Chicago Bears defensive end Israel Idonije.
“The story is rooted in place and pressure,” said Hayward. “The Midwest winter isn’t just a backdrop — it actively shapes the film’s tone and the characters’ decisions.”
Stephen Fletcher and Darren Weninger serve as executive producers.
Post-production is scheduled to take place in Thailand under Mbrella Films’ oversight.
